Bernshausen Elementary School
Bernshausen is located on an 18.03 acre site at 11116 Mahaffey Road, Tomball, Texas. The architectural firm of Matrix-Spencer Architects designed the 116,717 square foot facility. Bernshausen is the 5th derivation of the prototype that started with Benignus Elementary. The contract to build the school was awarded to Durotech General Contractors. The school opened on August 26, 2013 with an enrollment of 643 students.
The Bernshausen Family of Klein, Texas
Heinrich Bernshausen was born in Feudingen, Germany on December 9, 1822. Heinrich left Germany in 1852 to travel to the area now known as Klein. He made his home and earned his living farming and raising cattle. In 1856, he married Maria Magdalena Hofius. They had three children; Heinrich, Maria, and Wilhelmina “Ida”. Ida was the only child that survived into adulthood. Heinrich and Magdalena remained active citizens in the Big Cypress Community throughout their lives. Heinrich was one of eight original founders of Trinity Lutheran Church which became a cornerstone of the Spring/Klein Community. Heinrich died on February 24, 1892. He and Magdalena are buried in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.
