Klein Cain Sophomore Takes 2nd in State Discus Finals

Klein Cain Sophomore Takes 2nd in State Discus Finals
Klein, Texas— With the sun shining high over Mike A. Myers Stadium and a crisp blue Texas sky above, Klein Cain High School sophomore Naila Ugoh delivered the throw of her life—158 feet, 5 inches—to clinch the silver medal in girls discus at the UIL Class 6A State Track and Field Meet. Already set to earn bronze due to her earlier throws, Ugoh knew her final throw was her last chance to climb the podium rankings—and she made it count.

Rising to the Moment
As she stepped into the throwing circle for her final attempt, Ugoh was aware she’d already secured a top-three finish. But under the watchful eyes of thousands of fans, with the sound of her family and teammates cheering her on echoing across the field, she drew deep from her faith and competitive spirit.

“I just told myself to shake off all the nerves and be confident,” Ugoh said. “God was with me, and I knew I could do it. I stayed calm, focused, and gave it everything I had.”

Her final throw sailed past her competitors’, earning her not only the best mark of her meet, but a silver medal for Klein Cain.

An Honor for Klein Cain—and Klein ISD
The moment wasn’t just personal. It was a victory that resonated through her school and community.

“It’s such an honor to place,” Ugoh said. “Being able to represent Klein Cain and bring this medal back to our school means a lot.”

As only a sophomore, Naila Ugoh has already proven herself a fierce competitor on one of the biggest stages in Texas high school athletics. Her accomplishment continues Klein ISD’s proud tradition of student success at the state level.

Excellence in Athletics and Academics
Ugoh’s achievement is no surprise in Klein ISD, where athletes are not only trained for peak performance but also prepared to succeed in academics, athletics, and the arts (AAA). A standout student and athlete, Ugoh exemplifies the district’s commitment to developing well-rounded leaders.

“Naila represents the very best of Klein ISD,” said Brandon Baker, Executive Director of Athletics and Student Services. “We’re so proud of her poise, determination, and the way she stepped up when it mattered most. She continues a long legacy of Klein athletes bringing home honors from the UIL State Meet.”

More to Come
With two years still ahead in her high school career, Naila Ugoh is just getting started. Her silver-medal performance is not only a milestone, but a signal of even greater achievements to come—for herself, for Klein Cain, and for Klein ISD.
